Overview
The main aim of the VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide nail technology treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the beauty therapy and nail industry. The qualification is
suitable for learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at level 3. It also provides a sound platform into further learning at level 3 or level 4.

Course Units

Chapter 1: Principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic therapies
Overview

This unit will enable learners to develop their knowledge of the principles and practices of nonmedical aesthetic therapies.

Learners will develop their understanding of this emerging profession by inquiring into the history, safety, legal, insurance and professional body influences of the industry.

They will summarise methods and processes of ensuring safety and wellbeing and conforming to health and safety
standards. Learners will also appraise contra-actions, hygiene and medical emergency processes.

Learners will begin to develop an understanding of how to access research materials relevant totheir subject area whilst at the same time developing skills and understanding of how to collate
information for evidence based practice within the non-medical aesthetic industry.

Chapter 2 : Advanced consultation for non-medical aesthetic therapies
Overview

This unit will enable learners to develop their knowledge of the advanced consultation techniques for non-medical aesthetic therapies.

This unit is about understanding the principles of client care when providing professional consultations for advanced non-medical aesthetic treatments.

Learners will develop the knowledge and skills required to prepare for and undertake detailed consultations, demonstrating an
understanding of the need for client consent, how to work within the limit of own competence, the requirement of always conducting one’s own consultation and the necessity of allowing time for a
‘cooling off’ period prior to treatment.

Learners will develop an understanding of the importance of considering the clients psychological needs when consulting for advanced therapies, whilst further developing their communication skills
and know how to identify and advise on suitable treatment options and communicate realistic and appropriate treatment objectives.

Chapter 3 : Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic therapies
This unit is about advanced skin analysis techniques. It will enable learners to enhance their understanding of skin, developing their comprehension of the facial analysis procedure and advance
their understanding of the ageing process on the ageing process and its effects on the skin.

A more thorough understanding will enable learners to formulate a detailed treatment plan to address the client’s specific and individual needs, ensuring health, safety and unique requirements are met.

Chapter 4 : Provide advanced blemish removal treatments
Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety pertaining to level 5 non-medical aesthetic therapies.

They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with and analyse clients whilst providing advanced blemish removal treatments. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills and widen their knowledge of the principles and practices of level 5 non-medical aesthetic therapies, all of which are valued highly by employers
